Amanecer is the second song by singer-songwriter Mar Salguero, and I had the great opportunity to Produce and direct (And other things) its official music video.
The video portrays the metaphor of a melancholic man living in an "endless and dark night" (an abyss) with no desire to keep living. The man is eventually dazzled by the light of a new dawn (the end of the night), which gives him a new purpose in life.
THE FIRST CHALLENGE...
The first and only request I received from my client was for the video to be set on the beach. From that challenge, the idea was born: how could we conceptualize something around this and the song's lyrics? "We could end the music video with a grand ‘sunrise,’” we said. But to make this meaningful, we first needed to film something that would contrast it and make it stand out even more. A cold endless night of a lonely man” was the answer, however, an even greater challenge arose: how do we film a ‘night’ in the middle of a beach without lights?

LIKE A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE
Like something out of a high-budget Hollywood movie, we managed to make our day look like night. We achieved this using a filter called "Cold Day for Night", combined with advanced post-production techniques such as color grading. The result was exactly what we envisioned—a melancholic atmosphere that perfectly conveyed the feeling of an endless night.
TAILOR-MADEThis project gave us the opportunity to experiment in various areas of production, so we decided to create custom-made outfits for the artist.

Inspired by Art
As a director, in projects where I have complete creative freedom, I’ve always enjoyed drawing inspiration from great works of art. For this particular project, our atmosphere and Main character costume design, were subtly inspired by René Magritte’s masterpiece “The Schoolmaster.” Magritte is one of my favorite painters, and this piece is among my favorite works of art.
